Lonesome George wasn't alone!

Lonesome George, the last giant tortoise, died in June. He was the last tortoise of this kind living on the Galapagos islands. Now scientist discovered seventeen tortoises in Ecuador which have a similar genetic code because they're from the same subspecies.
In my opinion, on one hand that's wonderful because we didn't extinct the giant tortoises in the end and now we know that there are some left and we gotta take care of them. On the ohter hand, it's quite sad because George lived his life alone and he maybe could have lived together with these other tortoises to have a funnier life (he only got 100 years old, which is very little for a tortoise). Also it is really sad that we didn't realize how important it is to take care of the other species before we lost them, and even if there are other subspecies of giant tortoises left, Gorge and his species are forever gone and won't come back.
